PrEP for Crisis \u2013 Prophylactic Anti-Fascism <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While right-wing oligarchs are building bunkers and some cis men are dreaming of their own self-sufficient homesteads, we ask ourselves: Who\u2019s actually going to save us from them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The hardships bearing down on us could not be more varied. Cuts are being made everywhere, the welfare state is being dismantled, and fundamental labor rights are being questioned \u2014 precariousness is meant to make us willing to work. The foundations of our lives are being squandered, and our bodies and genders are being made subservient to the logic of war. Every possible measure is being taken to ensure the constant surveillance of our movements. In the future, national borders are set to be reinforced with even greater brutality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There\u2019s no question that we\u2019ve inherited a mess of a situation, but our queer history is also full of the seeds of a better world. So the reference to PrEP \u2014 the medication that protects against HIV infection \u2014 in our motto is no coincidence. Because during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, grief, anger, and fear were channeled into collective action. Where queer people could not rely on the state or existing healthcare systems, care was organized collectively, and the status quo was overturned through direct action. Here and elsewhere, we see glimmers of hope for how we can survive when we stand together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
We don\u2019t have any ready-made solutions that could definitively resolve the contradictions of our time. But one thing we do know: We refuse to let these crises harden our hearts or divide us. Being prepared for what\u2019s already here and what\u2019s yet to come means building bonds that will hold up even in tough times. Only by supporting one another, standing by one another, and sticking it out together can we organize resistance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The best defense against the rise of fascism and the shift toward authoritarianism in our society is strong communities that take responsibility for one another, resolve conflicts, and share knowledge. So let\u2019s work together to build networks of care and compassion that will support us when the state fails to do so. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
